2009 Week 3 Power Rankings

Carson Flag Football League presents:

Power Rankings:

Week 3

POWER RANKINGS

The Power Rankings are based on merit rather than ability or perceived ability.  A team could have some of the best players in the league, but can still be ranked low because they haven't earned it yet.  It doesn't matter what the team or the players of that team have done in other leagues or in that Saturday morning pickup game - In the end, it's the team's performance in Carson Football league games that's crucial to a higher ranking.

NOTE: Established teams (teams from previous seasons) will generally rank higher in the early Power Rankings (approx. Week 1 to Week 4) as they've earned their reputation through past seasons.  These teams are also less likely to drop as much from a loss or two.

 On the move

OC Cougar Hunters (5-0-0)                                                        As the only 5-0 team (only undefeated team without a tie left) in the league, the OC Cougar Hunters Remain at the Top spot after a clutch win over the 2-0 Bad Company.  Is there any legitimate contender to the OC Cougar Hunters crown?  Or maybe it's too early to jump on the bandwagon just yet.  Nevertheless, after last week's victory (giving them the top record in the league), the OC Cougar Hunters are finally getting respect from around the league as the top team.

 2: Last Week
1st Choice (2-0-1)                                                                      1st Choice are one of only two remaining undefeated teams in the league.  However, they looked very relieved to escape with a tie against the Long Beach All- Stars in a game that looked like it was going to slip away from them.  For the next 4 weeks, 1st Choice will undergo close scrutiny, as the meat of their schedule is coming up - they have games against the Team Hollywood, Slaughter House, and OC Cougar Hunter.  It's crunch time for the Choice's to prove themselves.  Game on!

Long Beach All- Stars (3-1-1)                                                  The Beach get back to respectability by defeating a tough new team in Hollywood 14-13 in a nail biter.  While, it wasn't their most impressive victory, the All-Stars always seem to find a way to get the win.  They didn't execute for most of the game and S, WR Clutch Mcutchens showed up at the biggining of the 2nd half and got Long Beach on the board with a long 80 yard TD Catch and run. Clutch was able to help the Beach fought through it and made all the key plays at the right moments - this game exemplified exactly why the Titans are so good and so consistent - they know how to get it done when it counts.  Happy returns to All-Pro QB Chuck Lazamo, who made an immediate impact in his return game this past week.

 Hollywood
 6: Last Week
Hollywood (3-2-0)                                                                Leave it up to the Hollywood to lose a game in which they dominated for most of regulation time.   This speaks volumes on the unpredictable nature of the Team Hollywood.  When, they're at their best, they can beat any team in the league.   Team Hollywood shows Consistency with what they do, and being able to sustain their performance throughout an entire game goes hand-in-hand with that concept.  Nevertheless, they still played a strong, respectable game against a top tier team and should continue to present a legitimate challenge to all contenders.  Note: Team Hollywood play the Crusaders this week.  Team QB Domique Willis leads the league in rushing yards this year (339 yards) and he is coming off a record setting game where he recorded 2 TDS.

 8: Last Week
Slaughter House (4-1-0)                                                         The House convincingly defeated the Descarados this past week (25-0).  However, it just wouldn't be fair to put them above any of the top teams ahead of them at this point.  The team directly above them (Hollywood) still hold the victory over their only head-to-head matchup earlier this season.  Not to worry though, the House don't care, they'll continue to rack up the wins and move up in the standings.  Long Beach and OC Cougars on there up coming schedule, the House have their eyes set on the conference title

 4: Last Week
↓ Saints (1-2-0)                                                                           Despite playing a hard fought game against team Hollywood, the Saints still dropped several spots in the rankings.  Apparantly, voters wanted to see how the Saints would fair against more credible opponents before placing them too high.  This week, they play the Long Beach and 1st Choice - an undefeated team that should bring plenty of credibility to the Saints if they can win it.

 7: Last Week
Bad Company (1-3-0)                                                          Bad Company maintains their spot in the rankings, neither moving up or down.  Nothing new was learned about Bad Company this week because of they lost another game 0-2 to OC Cougar Hunter other than the fact that they drop their record to 1-2.  While, it's unfair to not move them up in a game that they could have potentially won, voters wanted to take a wait and see approach before they made any move.  Nevertheless, Bad Company will get plenty of opportunities to prove themselves in the coming weeks
8Free Agent
 9: Last Week
Free Agent (1-2-0)                                                               Every voter wanted to move the Free Agent up the rankings after their victory against the Crusaders, but felt there wasn't any team that deserved to drop below them this week.  The Free Agent were very impressive in another game that you could argue that they deserved win.  The Free Agent have been playing extremely well this season, but they still need to find a way to finish off teams.  They are also susceptible to giving up the big play - this year they've given up two 70-yard plays and three plays with a net gain of 45 yards or more (every one of which resulted in a touchdown score)
9
 Crusaders
 5: Last Week
↓ Crusaders(1-3-0)                                                               Despite playing a hard fought game with only 6 players against a strong Free Agent team, the Crusaders still dropped several spots in the rankings.  Apparantly, voters wanted to see how the Crusadres would fair against more credible opponents before placing them too high.  This week, they play the Hollywood - an tough team that should bring plenty of credibility to the Crusaders if they can win it.

 10: Last Week
  Descarados (0-3-0)
One thing is certain, the Descarados do have the athletes to be an excellent team in this league.  However, they will need to be more consistent with their execution and figure out who their QB is, before they can move forward.  Defense is where they excel - they've only giving up a total of 28 points in their two losses.  Looking forward, the Descarados will look to get out of the cellar as they face a division rival this Sunday (OC Cougars).
11Lazy Boys
 11: Last Week
  Lazy Boys (0-3-0)
The Lazy Boys showed some progress last week, with a strong effort against the OC Cougar Hunter.  They were able to put up 6 points on OC Cougar Hunters while giving up 27.  However, if the team continues to struggle with their running game and passing game (8 attempts, -8 YDS), they'll be hard pressed to get a win anytime soon. This week they have a tuff road ahead with a visit with defending league Champion OC Bad Company.
